Meet the AssessMed Team
Don is proud to lead the AssessMed team as President. Don has over 30 years of experience within the insurance industry. He has worked within the insurance industry most of his adult professional life. Don began his insurance career as a telephone adjuster for Markel Insurance back in 1988. During his lengthy career within the insurance sector, Don has worked as an all-lines independent adjuster, a senior AB field rep for a large Canadian insurer and as the lead adjuster of a Special Investigations Unit that primarily dealt with arson cases and staged car accidents. In the past 15 years, Don has managed three different nationally recognized IME companies.
Don’s many years of experience in the insurance industry have significantly enhanced AssessMed’s customer service model and enabled the business to operate on a strong national platform. Don relies upon his diversified background within the insurance industry to mandate a superior vendor services platform; one that is customized for each individual client and that is predicated on his extensive knowledge of the inner workings of a claims department.
Tia plays a key strategic role leading the Canadian-owned operations of AssessMed. With more than 20 years of senior operations management experience, Tia has worked with some of North America’s leading IME companies. She has an in-depth understanding of IME business analytics as well as the various legislative landscapes across Canada. Tia has successfully led several large scale initiatives including national workforce management and process improvements, new technology implementations and organizational accreditations. Her business savvy and commitment to excellence combined with her ability to develop high performing teams is supported by a Diploma in Medical Business Administration from George Brown and a Certificate in Organizational Leadership from Ryerson University. Tia is a Six Sigma Green belt and a Surveyor for CARF International in the discipline of Medical Rehabilitation Accreditation.
Tia is a proud member of the AssessMed leadership team. She is also passionate about the needs of children, families & hunger, she actively supports charitable organizations that champion these causes. Tia is bilingual in English and French and enjoys baking, cycling and traveling in her spare time.
Colin is a proud member of the AssessMed senior management team and has worked in a Director/VP role covering both sales and operation for over 23 years. Prior to joining AssessMed, Colin was a Branch Manager for over 10 years in the Canadian banking industry.
As the National Vice President of Business Development, Colin’s vast experience allows him to support client needs from both a business development and operational perspective. Colin excels when supporting clients in the market segments of Accident Benefits, Catastrophic claims, Tort claims, Employer and Life & Health Disability claims. Colin consistently seeks out the client’s best interest, and regards customer satisfaction as his foremost priority. He has a proven track record of following the motto “the customer is always right” and this has led to a high level of customer retention over the years.
Brad graduated from the University of Windsor in 2009 after completing his Honours Bachelor of Human Kinetics with a Movement Science Major. He has earned a Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety from the University of New Brunswick. Brad has been working in the IME industry since 2010 and he has quickly climbed the ranks of the organization through a highly customer centric approach to business development. His special interests include accident benefits (CAT cases) plaintiff and defence medical-legal cases and medical malpractice files.
Using his clinical background and wealth of industry experience, Brad assists clients across the insurance and medico-legal industries in obtaining highly credible, defensible, and unbiased reports and opinions from AssessMed’s Canada-wide network of experienced medical specialists.
As National Executive Medical Director, Dr. Ben Clark oversees all of AssessMed’s medical professionals and the Executive Medical Team.
Dr. Clark maintains an ongoing clinical practice in physiatry in addition to his role with AssessMed where he provides assessment services exclusively for AssessMed clients in Ontario.
He has performed thousands of third party independent assessments in the area of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation for various sources including legal firms, long term disability insurers, auto insurers, and employers. Dr. Clark has testified at trial and at arbitrations and he has been recognized by the court as an expert witness in his medical field of expertise.
Dr. Clark is a duly qualified physician licensed to practice medicine in the Province of Ontario by the respective Colleges of Physicians and Surgeons. He has received specialist certification and fellowship by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
Dr. Clark has recognized proficiency by the Canadian Society of Clinical Neurophysiologists (EMG). He has a broad based practice predominantly evaluating individuals after injury with a large proportion of these sustained by motor vehicle accident or in the workplace. Dr. Clark was a WSIB evaluator at the Hamilton Regional Evaluation Centre and was also the Medical Director of rehabilitation at Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital for 5 years. His practice includes evaluation and treatment of chronic pain. He is a member of the Combined Spine Clinic at JBMH.
As Medical Director for AssessMed Ontario, Dr. Kleinman works closely with AssessMed’s National Executive Medical Director, Dr. Benjamin Clark.
Dr. Kleinman has enjoyed an ongoing clinical practice in physiatry for over 30 years and maintains his practice in addition to his role with AssessMed where he provides high quality assessment services exclusively for AssessMed clients in Ontario.
Dr. Kleinman has performed thousands of third party independent assessments in the area of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation as well as provided opinions related to Disability Management for various sources including Defense and Plaintiff Bar, Long Term Disability Insurers, Auto Insurers, as well as the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board and other agencies as requested. When called upon, he has testified at trial and at arbitrations and he has been recognized by the court as an expert witness in his medical field of expertise.
Dr. Kleinman is a duly qualified medical practitioner licensed to practice Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in the Provinces of Ontario, Newfoundland, and British Columbia, Canada. He completed a four-year Bachelor of Science degree at McGill University, Montreal with Honours in Cell Biology and graduated from the University of Toronto Medical School in 1976, having won the Charles Frost Medal for outstanding achievement in his second year. Following Medical School, he completed a two-year residency program in Family Medicine, followed by completion of residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, serving as Chief Resident in his final year.
Dr. Kleinman obtained his Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons certification in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in 1981. He was certified as a Diplomate by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in 1982. In addition, he is a Certified Independent Medical Examiner, having been certified by The American Board of Independent Medical Examiners.
Dr. Kleinman is the former Head of Rehabilitation and Program Director, Rehabilitation at the Baycrest Centre for Geriatric Care. In addition, he was on staff at Lyndhurst Rehabilitation Centre for Spinal Cord Injury and served as Acting Medical Director.
Dr. Ed Hanada is a licensed physician who practices Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in Atlantic Canada (Halifax, Nova Scotia) and Ontario. He graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1996, followed by residency training at Dalhousie University in 2001.
Dr. Hanada then went on to complete a fellowship in sports, spine, and musculoskeletal rehabilitation at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago/Northwestern University in 2002. He assesses, diagnoses, and treats various musculoskeletal conditions such as osteoarthritis, spinal injuries, and soft tissue pain conditions.
Dr. Hanada has taught and mentored residents, medical students, allied health professionals, engineering students, and computer science students. At Sunnybrook Health Centre, Dr. Hanada was responsible for overseeing the rehabilitation of patients with physical trauma from acute care to the tertiary rehabilitation centre at St. John’s Rehabilitation Hospital through to outpatient rehabilitation.
He has also served as the medical director of the Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation program at the Nova Scotia Health Authority formerly known as the Capital District Health Authority. In this position, he assisted in maintaining the centre of excellence for musculoskeletal and amputee rehabilitation in the areas of clinical care, education, and research.
Independently, Dr. Hanada performs medicolegal assessments for both defence and plaintiff counsel through AssessMed, as well as Accident Benefits Assessments (Ontario), Section B Assessments (Nova Scotia and New Brunswick), and Employer and Long Term Disability (LTD) assessments.
