Don Kunkel
PresidentDon is proud to lead the AssessMed team as President. Don has over 30 years of experience within the insurance industry. He has worked within the insurance industry most of his adult professional life. Don began his insurance career as a telephone adjuster for Markel Insurance back in 1988. During his lengthy career within the insurance sector, Don has worked as an all-lines independent adjuster, a senior AB field rep for a large Canadian insurer and as the lead adjuster of a Special Investigations Unit that primarily dealt with arson cases and staged car accidents. In the past 15 years, Don has managed three different nationally recognized IME companies.
Don’s many years of experience in the insurance industry have significantly enhanced AssessMed’s customer service model and enabled the business to operate on a strong national platform. Don relies upon his diversified background within the insurance industry to mandate a superior vendor services platform; one that is customized for each individual client and that is predicated on his extensive knowledge of the inner workings of a claims department.
Tia Levan
Vice PresidentTia Levan plays a key strategic role leading AssessMed’s Canadian‑owned operations. With more than 25 years of senior operations management experience, she has partnered with and led teams within some of North America’s leading Independent Medical Examination (IME) organizations. Tia brings substantial expertise in IME business analytics and a comprehensive understanding of the diverse legislative and regulatory environments across Canada. She has successfully led large‑scale, national initiatives, including workforce optimization, enterprise‑wide process improvements, technology implementations, and multiple organizational accreditation programs. Known for her strong business acumen and commitment to operational excellence, Tia is equally recognized for her ability to build, mentor, and lead high‑performing teams. She holds a Diploma in Medical Business Administration from George Brown College and a Certificate in Organizational Leadership from Ryerson University. Tia is a Six Sigma Green Belt and served as an Administrative Surveyor for CARF International in the Medical Rehabilitation Accreditation discipline.
Tia is a proud member of the AssessMed leadership team. She is deeply committed to giving back to the community. Tia is passionate about supporting initiatives focused on children, families, and addressing food insecurity, and actively contributes to charitable organizations championing these causes. Bilingual in English and French. Tia enjoys baking, yoga, volunteering at the food bank and traveling in her spare time.
Colin Miller
National Vice President Business Development & Corporate Compliance OfficerColin is a proud member of the AssessMed senior management team and has worked in a Director/VP role covering both sales and operation for 28 years. Prior to joining AssessMed, Colin was a Branch Manager for over 10 years in the Canadian banking industry.
As the National Vice President of Business Development, Colin’s vast experience allows him to support client needs from both a business development and operational perspective. Colin excels when supporting clients in the market segments of Accident Benefits, Catastrophic claims, Tort claims, Employer and Life & Health Disability claims. Colin consistently seeks out the client’s best interest, and regards customer satisfaction as his foremost priority. He has a proven track record of following the motto “the customer is always right” and this has led to a high level of customer retention over the years.
