Dr. Velan Sivasubramanian
Psychiatry
Dr. Sivasubramanian is licenced to practise medicine, with a specialty in Psychiatry, in the province of Ontario.
Since moving to private practice in 2013, Dr. Sivasubramanian has been performing Independent Medical Evaluations. He has been performing Catastrophic Impairment evaluations for motor vehicle accident claims since 2018. He has testified before the LAT as well as the WSIB.
The nature of Dr. Sivasubramanian’s work brings him into contact with a wide variety of patients and diagnoses, including psychotic, mood, anxiety, neurocognitive, and substance use disorders.
Professional Affiliations
He is a member in good standing of the CPSO, CMA, and OMA. He is a member of the CPA Section of Disaster Psychiatry.
He is CCAT-MB and CMLE (ON) certified.
Assessor Background & Experience
Dr. Sivasubramanian worked as a Staff Psychiatrist at Regional Mental Health Care London (formerly the London Psychiatric Hospital) treating the chronically and severely mentally ill for a period of three years. During this time, he also acted as a Consultant Psychiatrist at the London Health Sciences Centre, providing psychiatric direction to their Emergency Department.
Moving to Toronto in July of 2001, Dr. Sivasubramanian was initially a Staff Psychiatrist at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. He was the Medical Director of the Shared Care Program at St. Joseph’s Health Centre for approximately 10 years. He divided his time between the outpatient clinic and providing crisis consultation to the ER. Dr. Sivasubramanian is a Lecturer at the University of Toronto.
Assessor Education
Dr. Velan Sivasubramanian received his B.Sc. in Biology at the University of New Brunswick after which he studied Medicine at the University of Ottawa from 1989 to 1993. Dr. Sivasubramanian completed residency training in Psychiatry at the University of Western Ontario in London and became a Fellow of the Royal College in June of 1998.
