Battlefield Bike Ride 2024 Announcement

Posted on September 29th, 2023 by Neil Pike

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

I am the Sr. Director of Business Development with AssessMed, I am also an Ambassador for Wounded Warriors Canada. AssessMed has been a proud supporter of Wounded Warriors Canada and the services we provide our veterans, first responders and their families.

This is to welcome everyone to my Battlefield Bike Ride (BBR-24) page. I, along with Dr. Mark Dowhaniuk, a core neuropsychologist with AssessMed and 100 of our veterans, first responders and their families, will embark on an extraordinary 5-day cycling adventure starting on June 9th, 2024 (D-Day +29,203). We will retrace the footsteps of our heroes during one of the most pivotal moments of the 20th century: the D-Day landings of World War II.

Our itinerary will take us on an exploration of the Normandy coastline, where Allied forces launched their audacious assault against Nazi-occupied Europe.

Each day of this immersive journey is designed to transport us to significant sites, enabling the riders to grasp the challenges faced by the Allies and the extraordinary valour they displayed. We will stand in awe at Merville Battery, experience the formidable Atlantic Wall at Le Grand Bunker Museum, and pay our respects at the Normandy American Cemetery. We will explore the Memorial Pegasus, trace the path of the Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada, and gain insights at the Juno Beach Centre.

This ride is not just about cycling; it’s about connecting with the past, feeling the weight of the sacrifices made, and celebrating the triumph of the human spirit. As we pedal through picturesque landscapes, we will be witness to the stories that unfolded here – stories of camaraderie, resilience, and ultimate victory.

Our Battlefield Bike Ride represents the largest single fundraising event for the charity each year. Over the past eight years, our participants, donors and sponsors have raised over $3.25 million! This incredible effort has helped transform Wounded Warriors Canada into the national mental health service provider that it is today.

The BBR is more than just a bike ride. It is an experience and sense of honour that our veterans and first responders will treasure for a lifetime.

My goal is to raise $5,000 and the donations will go directly to Wounded Warriors Canada to support the mental health services we provide our veterans, first responders and their families #inthistogether.
